Description
My paintings are both traditional and post digital. The first aspect of my work reveals development of the way one piece becomes what it is at the end. I choose to keep some layers and gestures from the starting form of the painting, and I reconfigure others. This method makes visible the journey from backwards to the last point. It also looks like solution in one moment but it’s importance fades in another one. Unfinished opportunities make some kind of tension and/or exhaustion. I find this to be method for saving traces and trails from the starting point, and it make sense in context of simultaneously happening all together - the first and the last impression of this structure.
Our everyday life is filled with so much information and it becomes hard to stay clear in time and space decisions. It’s hard to find priorities, also it sometimes seems this hysterical and claustrophobic condition is getting worse. My work is about screens and noise in our consciousness, about tension and crowd, about trying to find the right or any path, and being unable to make pause in that pressure. I use traditional media because it is very important and hard for me to find out what stays and what I’m going to overpaint. Also I like to use same type of colors and make them look like different substance on canvas (or in the picture), even though these are not just the same material but actually the same colors or even the same tone. This kind of arranging textures should disturb, and make another dimension. When I look at the painting I’m often not sure about current emotional state: transformation between lines, drops, spots and shadows, hallways, windows etc. can be amusing, exciting, playful or frantic, powerless, anxious with no way out. So this damaged screen and this choices without importance or consequence bring up the question of human possibility to think inside pixelate functions of mind.
In process of painting I find myself exploring the unrealistic expectations one tends to direct into noticing everything at the same moment. So much time just looking (thinking) and picking what to do next, it is wasting of attention and concentrating at the same time. And also bring us into question of inability of resolving, losing the importance of orientation.
These screens everywhere around are changing the condition of seeing the traditional painting. The inner situation of painting is soaked with the distorting web and distraction of many ideas rushing by and through. In the other hand, we are experiencing hypnotic developing of human abilities to fill in, integrate, aggregate, and enjoy this weaving visual contents by using both physical and mental senses.
